Jesse Powell (September 12, 1971 – September 13, 2022)

Jesse Powell passes away at 51 on September 13, 2022. He died from cardiac arrest in his Los Angeles home on September 13, 2022, one day after his 51st birthday. His sister, Tamara, broke the news on IG and issued the following statement from the family.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and uncle Jesse Powell.

Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him.” ~The Powell Family

Tamara asked for privacy so her family could grieve and celebrate her brother’s life.

Jesse’s Early Life

Jesse was an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter. Discovered by Louil Silas Jr., Powell was best known for his hit “You” which peaked at No. 2 in R&B and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Powell released four albums and was the older brother of fellow contemporary R&B singers Trina & Tamara. Powell was credited with a four-octave vocal range He was a Grammy nominee.

Powell was born in Gary, Indiana alongside his siblings Trina & Tamera. They often performed in talent shows as a family. He is best known for his singles “You” and “The Enchantment Melody – Gloria/It’s You That I Need” both released in the 90s and topping the charts.
