Aretha Franklin Earns ‘Torch Of Freedom’ Award

The Queen of Soul was in New York City over the weekend to receive the Torch of Freedom Award.
Presented by the Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club of New York, Franklin received the award Sunday afternoon.
The club says it offers ‘’service to those who have served their country.”

Chicago Church Honors A Gospel Music Great

Pilgrim Baptist Church in Chicago is honoring the man known as the father of gospel music. The church and its choir put on a musical tribute to Thomas A. Dorsey Sunday afternoon.
Dorsey was the music director of the church from 1932 till 1970. His most famous work is “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.”
