Parents Bring Young Children Along For Bank Robbery

A couple in Utah are clearly not interested in gaining recognition for parents of the year, as they thought it would be a good idea to bring their two young children along for the ride when they went to rob a bank.

via Huffington Post

Police in Utah say they’ve arrested a husband and wife bank robbery team that took their two children along for the illegal excursion.

An arrest report from Tooele police says the man and woman, both 27, were caught Monday soon after a Wells Fargo branch was robbed. A 5-year-old and a 2-year-old were in the back seat.

According to The Salt Lake Tribune the couple told police they robbed the bank because they faced eviction and growing medical bills.

Employees told police the woman entered the bank and showed the teller a note demanding money.

The woman reportedly ran from the bank to the car, which was driven by the man.

Police say they searched the vehicle and found the demand note, along with hundreds of dollars in cash.

SMH. What a great example to set for your children at such a young age.

Kenya Hospital Admits To Beating And Imprisoning New Mothers Without Money

A hospital in Kenya is under fire after admitting that they frequently hold new mothers who are unable to pay their medical bills hostage until payment is received.

via The Grio

The director of the Pumwani Maternity Hospital, located in a hardscrabble neighborhood of downtown Nairobi, freely acknowledges what he’s accused of: detaining mothers who can’t pay their bills. Lazarus Omondi says it’s the only way he can keep his medical center running.

Two mothers who live in a mud-wall and tin-roof slum a short walk from the maternity hospital, which is affiliated with the Nairobi City Council, told The Associated Press that Pumwani wouldn’t let them leave after delivering their babies.

The bills the mothers couldn’t afford were $60 and $160. Guards would beat mothers with sticks who tried to leave without paying, one of the women said.

How can you proudly admit that the majority of your cashflow as hospital comes from holding women and newborn babies hostage? SMH.

Oh God!

New York Man Sues Church For $3 Million Over Amputated Leg

Via ABCNews

After Delia Jimenez was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2008, her husband, David, often prayed before a large stone crucifix outside St. Patrick’s Church in Newburgh, N.Y. Devout Catholics, the couple credited Delia Jimenez’s recovery in 2010 to her husband’s fervent praying. They were so grateful that his wife asked the parish priest, Blady Socualaya, if her husband could clean the cross to show his gratitude. He said yes.

On Memorial Day of the year of his wife’s recovery, Jimenez began to scrub the 600-pound marble crucifix when it became unhinged, toppled on him and crushed his right leg, his lawyer, Kevin Kitson, told ABC News. He was rushed to Westchester Medical Center, where his leg had been so badly mangled it had to be amputated. Jimenez, a Mexican immigrant, spent more than a month in the hospital, ratcheting up hundreds of thousands in medical bills. Kitson told ABC News that Jimenez had no health insurance and that the bills were paid by charitable trusts.

According to Kitson, the statue had been inadequately anchored to the base. ”Somebody should have said, ‘Don’t go climbing up there, because we don’t know if it’s safe.’”

Since losing his leg, Jimenez, a 45-year-old father of three who worked at a bakery and pizzeria, has been unable to work. Although the parishioners collected $7,700 worth of donations for his family, the Archdiocese of New York’s insurance company, Catholic Mutual Group, declined to offer Jimenez any kind of settlement, Kitson said.

Catholic Mutual did not respond to calls from ABC News, but Frank Raia, a lawyer with Rivkin Radler, which represents St. Patrick’s Church, told ABC News that “The Archdiocese of New York and St. Patrick’s Church understand and recognize that this was a terrible accident. However, it is their position that they are not liable for the happening of the accident.”

Jimenez has filed a $3 million negligence lawsuit against the Archdiocese. The case will go to trial in January 2013.

Talk about a bad break…

Suge doesn’t want any involvement in the brawl even though people are saying his crew is to blame.

According to The Daily Mail:

Music mogul Suge Knight doesn’t want a bad rap. Sources say the co-founder and former CEO of Death Row Records was present during a scuffle at Bagatelle L.A. early Wednesday morning that left model Denise Sanchez with a handful of stitches and medical bills.

A Sanchez source says the model is telling friends an argument that involved broken glass and Knight’s posse “resulted in her going to the hospital and receiving many stitches.”

Knight, according to a Bagatelle patron, arrived at the upscale eatery with a male pal around 11:45 p.m., and were later joined by another couple. The insider says around 1:30 a.m., a high-spirited Sanchez joined Knight’s table and “an argument arose” between the model and one of the music mogul’s male pals. A Sanchez source says it was over her initially declining to join their party.

As Sanchez and Knight’s table mate carried out their verbal argument, the insider says other people at the table and restaurant employees tried to calm Sanchez down, but Knight didn’t get involved.

A Sanchez source says she’s telling pals a bottle was thrown at her, but the restaurant witness says, “She cut her hand on a broken wine glass” that got knocked over, along with a significant amount of other glassware during the verbal feud.

Multiple sources tell us police and an ambulance were called, but no charges were pressed. Sanchez left in the ambulance, and an insider says, “Suge spoke with police” but his name wasn’t initially on the police report.

The next day, “Suge called her and said he had nothing to do with the incident and had no idea who threw (the glass),” says the Sanchez source. “He has been bombarding her with phone calls” because he doesn’t want his name involved.

Knight, who has had legal woes since first being sent to the slammer in 1996, is currently on three years’ unsupervised probation for driving with a suspended license.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” Sanchez insisted when Confidenti@l reached her by phone, before she quickly hung up on us.

Can you blame her? We wouldn’t want to talk about that isht either if Suge was blowin’ up our phone!

Mitt Romney Says People Don’t Need To Have Health Insurance

Mitt Romney is still standing firm on his stance that Americans should not be required to have health insurance. He re-affirmed his position on the issue on a recent issue of 60 minutes, where he asserted that people shouldn’t be required to have health insurance because they can still get care without it……at someone else’s expense.

via The Grio

People without health insurance don’t lack access to care, and aren’t at risk of “dying in their apartments,” according to Mitt Romney.

The Republican presidential candidate revived a theme he sounded in a “60 Minutes” interview last month, during a Wednesday interview with the Columbus Dispatch editorial board. Romney said that he intends to oversee the repeal of the Affordable Healthcare Act as president, and replace it with his own plan, which he said would give people the “choice” whether to buy coverage.

Meanwhile in the real world, the Huffington Post shed some light on what it really means to go without health insurance:

Roughly 4 in 25 Americans, or nearly 49 million Americans, had no health insurancelast year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Repealing Obamacare would deny access to health insurance to about 30 million uninsured Americans who would have received it under health care reform.

Letting so many people go uninsured ultimately can cost both individuals and society. When people lack health insurance, their health worsens, and their health treatments become more expensive, research has found. People without health insurance also are in danger of facing massive medical bills, debt, and bankruptcy if they get sick or injured.

Mitt, tell us how your foot tastes?

Ol’ good samaritan face a$$…

California Woman Emily Leach Gives Away Winning Lotto Ticket To Homeless Man

Emily Leach, who won a million-dollar jackpot in California last January, said she is hoping to fight the state lottery’s decision stopping her from collecting a second jackpot of $260,000 — winnings that came from a ticket Leach has famously claimed she accidentally gave away to a stranger in March.

A lottery official informed her that “we gave the check to the man” in June, Leach told ABC News. Leach said she has asked a lawyer to explore her options.

A California Lottery spokesman confirmed to ABC News that Leach would not receive the $260,000 jackpot, a decision reached after an “extensive investigation” by the California Lottery’s security and law enforcement division.

“We feel very confident that the person who claimed the ticket is the rightful owner of the ticket and that is not Emily Leach,” Russ Lopez, the California Lottery’s deputy director of communications, told ABC News.

Outside of the pain of losing that kind of gwap, there is another reason why Emily is so thirsty to get her winnings…

These days, Leach, 31, is living with her mother in Reno, Nevada after being kicked out of her California home. (She said the landlord evicted her after deciding he could charge a higher rent to new tenants.)

“Right now, I’m just trying to hold on to every penny,” she said.

Leach said she has to stay thrifty because of her ailing health. She used part of her January winnings to pay off $300,000 in medical bills she ran up after a ruptured spleen and a life-threatening bout with pancreatitis a couple of years earlier. Leach said she still has large bills for medication she must take.

It doesn’t help, Leach says, that she doesn’t have a real job anymore.

She said she was put on unpaid leave from her job at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System after her first lotto win because coworkers complained that there were threats made against her after her win, and they made for an unsafe work environment. She said she was later informed that she would be terminated at the end of her leave this month.

Ultimately, Emily knows it was her own dumb-a$$ fault for giving away such a precious piece of paper:

“I will be the first to admit I got flustered. I shouldn’t have been doing so many things at once,” she told “20/20″ in March. “But I was just trying to help the guy.”

But the California Lottery’s Lopez said that surveillance footage from the convenience store shows Leach willingly giving a man her ticket. An account of the incident given by the man claiming the ticket, Lopez said, was corroborated by the cashier who sold it.

“There was no coercion,” Lopez said. “It was an act of kindness that unfortunately got messy when the numbers were drawn.”

Lopez said the man who claimed the prize money has asked not to be identified.

You damn skippy he asked “not to be indentified”!!

Looks like you’re a$$ed out Emily, in words of the great American writer Tupac Shakur: “It’s a dirty game out here, Keep yo’ eyes on yo’ riches”

So sad

Via TMZ reports:

Usher’s ex-wife — Tameka Raymond — will be forced to take her 11-year-old son off life-support as early as next month, TMZ has learned, all because his insurance coverage is about to expire.

Sources close to the family tell TMZ … Tameka has not lost hope that her son, Kyle Glover, can make a drastic recovery … despite doctors declaring him brain dead last week following a jet ski accident. We’re told she is telling friends … she still believes in miracles.

According to our sources, Tameka can only keep Kyle on life-support as long as her insurance company agrees to pay … otherwise she doesn’t have the funds to cover the enormous hospital bills.

We’re told the insurance company hasn’t set a specific deadline, but they’ve made it clear … they’re only willing to shell out coverage for a couple months … tops.

Our sources say that Usher — who helped raise Kyle for several years — has been incredibly supportive in this difficult time… but has NOT offered to pay for any medical bills. We’re told Tameka does not see him as a viable financial option.

As TMZ first reported, Kyle was struck in the head by a jet ski while inner tubing on Lake Lanier — doctors declared him brain dead days later.

Do you think Usher should help pay for some of his ex-step son’s medical bills?
