Kendell Freeman

By Maurice Bobb

Rick Ross just has a knack for staying ahead of the game. In his latest move, Rozay has named Kendell “Young Sav” Freeman (of "Best of Both Offices") the new Vice President of Maybach Music Group.

“Feels great calling one of the hardest workers and few people I consider a close friend the new VP of MMG,” the God Forgives, I Don't MC said of Freeman’s appointment Thursday (April 18), which is effective immediately.

The former Def Jam Mixshow Manager won’t be taking his talents to South Beach, though. He’ll remain in New York to oversee all areas of MMG with a specific focus on growing the success of existing signings and developing new talent. Additionally, Freeman will continue his relationship with his former employer to collaborate on Ross' future solo projects.

"I am extremely excited to embark on this new path in my career,” Freeman said. “I appreciate Ross for noticing my grind, work ethic and giving me a major opportunity to not only be a part of this label, but also help execute his vision.”

Prior to joining MMG, Freeman thrived for almost a decade on the label that Russell Simmons built. During his time there, he was instrumental in the success of projects from hip-hop heavyweights such as Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Fabolous, Trinidad Jame$, Jadakiss, Juelz Santana, Jay-Z and, of course, his new Bawse.

“Kendell a.k.a Young Sav’s talent and knowledge helped redefine the lifestyle approach to marketing and promoting some of the biggest names in hip-hop,” said Shawn “Pecas” Costner, SVP Def Jam Records “he’s one of a kind.” Earlier in his career, Freeman played a pivotal role at TVT Records in breaking music for the label’s urban acts, which included the Ying Yang Twins, Pitbull and Lil Jon & Eastside Boyz.

"It’s going to be a privilege to work with the brand and assist in taking it to the next tier,” Freeman said. “All of the artists on the roster are amazing. I’m ready to get to work."

On Monday (April 1) Tyga released his latest Hotel California single "Hit Em Up" with a feature from Jadakiss....and Tupac, which has hip-hop heads buzzing about the legitimacy of the move. On the track, the YMCMB rapper uses bits of Pac's lines from "Thugs Get Lonely Too," "Thug 4 Life" and "Komradz," to create the feeling that the deceased rapper is actually rhyming with him on the track. Is it a win?

"A lot of people think it's a remake of 'Hit 'Em Up,' his song — which it's not a remake, it's original," Tyga told MTV News last month, adding that it isn't necessarily a diss record, like Pac's track was. "When you're talking about 'Hit 'Em Up' you ain't really dissing nobody, but you lettin' it be known that you don't rock with certain people." He said that he originally wanted Nicki Minaj on the track, but when that didn't work out he came up with some other options.

"I sent it to Jadakiss, and after that I was done with the song, and then I had came across some 'Pac vocals from a friend. I was like, 'Man, this would be dope,' but I didn't really know how to use it properly."

Are fans feeling Tyga's rendition of 'Hit Em Up' with Pac's vocals?"

@EC_the2nd Why tyga have to do my n----a 2pac like that?!

@rgbrownie Oh no. Tyga + Pac on Hit Em Up for his new album. I can't imagine it would be anything but a disservice.

@Tytan_VGVK Tyga snapped on that hit em up by gettin Pac's vocals

@shadesgotswag Everyone hatin on tygas new song "Hit Em Up" ft 2pac... Saying that's disrespectful of tyga to do that. no one knows what PAC would do

@SouthSideKid215 Tyga has no business on a track wit 2pac smfh

@ItsSeanStarks How Tyga gonna force Pac to trade bars with him over a DJ Mustard beat? Rap game too weird for me right now

@mOnKofficial Best unofficial PAC track is wit 50 all eyes on me. Idk what Tyga n Kiss was thinking lol

@LA_masala At least if Kendrick or Lupe made a song feat Pac I'd be satisfied ..but Tyga? With his "buzza on beat" intro...nah

@Fabian_FNFUp Can't believe people giving Tyga props for keeping Pac "alive"? No, just no...

@DOPE_MusicBlog Pac is rolling in his grave right now.. who gave the okay this?? I can't imagine Pac would want to trade bars with Tyga

@BigGhostFASE If Tyga really wanted to throw a fake Pac collab on his album its whatever...but why he name it after sons most infamous record?

@_Massiah Just got done listening to that new Tyga track with a supposed feature from Pac...god damn, they really reaching...

@_TPreece_ who let tyga have a 2pac verse on his new hit em up song? ....smh

ramos

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Rappers usually don't ask to be the subject of hip-hop tell-alls but according to "Love & Hip Hop's" Winter Ramos, Jadakiss encouraged her to write her upcoming book "Game Over."

In an interview with VladTV, Winter shares that she dated Jadakiss in the late 90s before he was famous. "We came up together. I guess he saw a lot of the growth," she says. "He put the battery in my back."

Winter says that Jadakiss, fellow cast member L'orel and Game are but some of the people in the book. Winter denies that she ever slept with her former boss Fabolous. In terms of sexual relations, Winter says that Nino Brown from Junior M.A.F.I.A. will be mentioned. She says that her book will be a combination of who she's worked with and who she's slept with.

Winter says that she's never had bad relationships with people and most of the people mentioned, including Fab, had no issues with her writing a revealing book. For the few that did have an issue, especially those were married at the time, she is unapologetic. "This is the music industry. Married men cheat," she says.

Game Over is officially out April 1.

Every artist has their moment before cheers turn into boos and bright lights dim. With hundreds of once popular rappers/singers fighting irrelevancy and only 10 spots, we had to make a Pt. 2 (and maybe even a Pt. 3, 4 and 5).

Here are ten more artists NOBODY cares about anymore. Take a look.

Word on the street is Winter Ramos grudge fawked “The Game” to get back at Jadakiss. But one person she won’t be kissing and telling on is Maino!

According to Baller Alert reports via HSK:

Apparently in Winter Ramos’ book, she tells a story of how Game is one of the 250+ industry men she’s encountered (her calculations, not mine). An excerpt of Winter’s book ironically titled “Game Over” reveals that Winter smashed Game before immediately heading over to let Jadakiss pound the cakes.

“After leaving Game’s hotel room in hopes of Jadakiss being in another room and when he was not, I sought revenge. Jason wasn’t there and hadn’t been there. I got mad. What kind of business could he be handling that would keep him gone all night?

Immediately, I jumped to the conclusion and figured he was with another b*tch, although he’d never played me like that before. Out of spite, I returned to Game’s room.”

Winter’s book drops April 1st. Rumor has it that Maino was supposed to make an appearance in the book but he’s got the girl shook so bad she took his name out.

SMH. We can’t believe Jadakiss wifed this chick at one point. What a lil slorebag.

meek

By Maurice Bobb

It’s no coincidence that the rappers ranked on MTV’s “Hottest MCs in the Game VIII” list are firing off new material with the kind of competitive fire one that would expect from a Top 10 spitter. Meek Mill, who nabbed this year’s #10 spot on the list after besting French Montana and Pusha T, is prepping the third installment of Dreamchasers, the mixtape series that made him a star long before he signed with Rick Ross, the #3 lyricist on the Hottest MCs list.

DC3 is slated to drop on May 6, but for those that can’t wait to hear bars from the MMG capo; he just dropped his own version of Drake’s “Started From the Bottom.” On the two-minute track, the energetic rhyme slayer shouts out Drizzy and his hometown Toronto and rattles off 16's: "Started from the bottom, now we here/we was selling things, pullin' strings, puppeteer/ started with a dollar now, I'm jumping out the Lear/ all my ni--as behind me, you can find me in the air.”

There's no debating that the Philly MC "Started From the Bottom," so fans will likely embrace the young gunner's latest freestyle. As for the mixtape, Meek took to Instagram to release the tracklist for the project last week. Oddly enough, his MMG cohorts like Wale, Stalley and Rozay, aren’t listed on the 16-track release. But, there are interesting features to look forward to, like Fozzie Bear, Jadakiss, Trina, Waka Flocka and the #9 emcee on the Hottest MC list, Future.

It was 1999 when fans were first introduced to E-V-E with her multiple platinum debut Let There Be Eve... Ruff Ryders' First Lady. Since then, she has dropped two more solo shots and taken on Hollywood with roles in films like "Barbershop" and the 2004 Sundance breakout "The Woodsman" as well as star in her television sitcom which ran from 2003 to 2006. Through it all, however, Eve is most known for her inclusion in the storied Ruff Ryder collective which at one time boasted the talents of DMX, Swizz Beatz, Jadakiss and Drag-On.
