Left Eye’s younger sister Reigndrop responds to Lil Mama being cast to play her sister and the family being left in the dark about the TLC biopic

Family Of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Says They Aren’t Involved In TLC Biopic

The fans and the general public might be excited about the TLC biopic that’s currently in the works, but there’s one pretty important group of people who aren’t quite on that bandwagon: the family of late TLC group member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

Left Eye’s younger sister Reigndrop Lopes recently sat down with Mara of 4UMF for a quick chat, where she revealed that the family has not been in the loop about anything regarding the biopic since giving their permission to tell Lisa’s story also talked details surrounding Lisa’s death in 2002. Check out a few interview excerpts below:

On whether or not the family has bee involved with the movie:
“No, we’re not involved in anything actually dealing with TLC. We would love to be involved, but it’s just not the case.

The movie, yeah we knew about it ’cause we had to sign off on it, but we still have nothing to do with the movie, and I don’t know the release date or the premiere date. We didn’t even know when they were shooting. The only way I found out was because a friend of mine was cast as an extra and flew down here, and I happened to go up there with her. We didn’t know anything at all.

The only way I can kind of feel is just disappointed and hurt. I can’t point the finger at anyone ’cause I don’t know whose decisions these are. It could be a collective decision, it could be one person, I have no idea.

“She [their mother] was hurt, she was pissed off, and hurt more than anything, but it’s like what can we do? Legally, I don’t think we can do anything, but it’s just more morally, why wouldn’t you involve the family? We’re right here in Atlanta, and we’re open to being involved. And when you don’t reach out, it makes you wonder why, question why. We don’t know why.

On rumors of a TLC tour and the family’s thoughts on a Left Eye hologram being used.
“I didn’t really know about the tour until you mentioned it. I knew about a couple of dates, Japan and PA, but I really didn’t know about a tour, I didn’t know about the album, you pretty much just mentioned it.”

Actually, I actually thought of the [hologram] idea doing that even well before 2Pac’s, but I didn’t know if it actually could be done. And then when I saw 2Pac’s, then I was like, okay, well they can do it. I would definitely be okay with it. I don’t how my mom..she mentioned it, and when she mentioned it, she seemed okay with it. From the fans, I hear both sides. I hear fans that would embrace it, and other fans say no, it’s too real. But, that’s saying that now, when I see it, that’s another story.”

“The thing is, I know the kind of stuff Lisa was into, and that’s something Lisa would have loved, a hologram. So that’s what I think about too.”

Wow. Sounds like Left Eye’s family all but signed their rights to be involved away when they signed off on the movie. Wonder why they’re being kept in the dark? Hit the flip to hear Reigndrop and her family’s reaction to Lil Mama being chosen to play Left Eye in the biopic, what Left Eye’s relationship was like with her group members just before she passed and whether or not the family still supports T-Boz and Chilli today.

Chris Kelly jermaine dupri

Could he have done more? As Chris Kelly’s family awaits the results of his toxicology report, his music family is lamenting not being able to save him.

Via US Weekly reports:

Chris Kelly may be gone, but he is definitely not forgotten. The Kriss Kross rapper’s support system is far-reaching, and, according to mentor Jermaine Dupri, any member of his musical family would have stepped forward if they knew just how serious Kelly’s drug use had become the night of his death.

“If I would have known, I would have tried to put my foot forward to help the situation,” Dupri told Us Weekly’s Ian Drew in an exclusive interview following Kelly’s shocking May 1 death, adding that reports of a potential overdose was particularly hard-hitting. “I’m hearing about this just like everybody else and I’m not really too believing of all of it, but at the same time, I can’t say that I didn’t know. I wasn’t there to know about it and I hate it because I feel like if there were people around and knew about it, then they should have waved the flag.”

So So Def founder Dupri, who worked closely with Kelly since he first came up as a rising star with fellow Kriss Kross member Chris Smith in the early 90s, added that Kelly was like the Justin Bieber of his day, a “very fun kid” who loved sports and video games.
“It was like we were just kids that were into the same things and he played video games. He played basketball. He played baseball. He played football. He rapped. He swam,” Dupri remembered of his mentee. “He was just a natural kid, like a person that you want to be around at all times because he would never not want to be doing anything.”

Kelly’s friends Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins of 90s girl group TLC similarly remembered the young rapper as a “regular cool teenage boy.”

“I used to hang out at his house with his mom and pick him up,” Thomas told Us. “He was like a teenager and just the sweetest thing, just a regular cool teenage boy, so we were really close and then the last time I saw him was last year at a concert. …He was fun and funny, but just laid-back sort of. He was really sweet, very down to earth, didn’t act all — especially at that time, they were huge and he had a really humble spirit.”

Kelly passed away on May 1 at the age of 34 after he was found unresponsive in his Atlanta-area home. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead soon afterward. An autopsy has been completed, but the official cause of death is still pending toxicology results.

The 90s rapper had reportedly been abusing both blow and h-ron (a “speedball”) the night before his death.

“It breaks my heart to see another young talent gone too soon. I will never forget the chance I was given by Jermaine Dupri and Kris Kross to sing on their demos,” Watkins told Us in a statement. “They played a big part in me finding my signature sound. I will forever be grateful. I send my love and blessings to Chris’ family.”

Michael Mauldin, Dupri’s father and Kelly’s former manager, added that Kelly’s death signals more than just a personal loss — it is a huge hit to the music community at large.

“I’ve gotten emails and texts of people … with their shirts and pants on backwards,” he told Us, referring to Kriss Kross’ signature fashion statements. “That just shows the impact these kids had on the nation.”

“I know we see it today with Justin Bieber and some of these young acts with age 12, but we didn’t have the Internet and when you really think about it, Kris Kross was in a lane by themselves,” Mauldin continued of the group’s influence.

His son Dupri agreed. “I think that we as individuals, myself and Kris Kross, we went through a lot of scrutiny in the hip hop community when they were younger about not being real and not being too hip hop,” the music producer told Us. “Kris Kross was the first group was that was basically accepted on both sides of the world where they could be on The Source and they could be on the cover of Disney at the same time. …I just want people to remember them for just having fun and making music.”

Sad… Do you think JD could have done more?

VH1 Releases Promo Pics For TLC Biopic

Earlier this month, the remaining original members of TLC went to bat to defend some of the backlash that ensued after the cast of the upcoming TLC biopic shared a few behind-the-scenes Instagram pics of Keke Palmer as Chilli, Lil Mama as Left Eye and Drew Sidora as T-Boz.

Now VH1 has released to first official pics of the trio, hopefully to a better response than the previous pics:

We think these three actually look pretty believable. Only time will tell if they can bring the real TLC to life in front of the camera.

What do you think of the new promo pics?

TLC has been officially revived....by three of their biggest fans.  Check out the first promo pic with Drew Sidora, Lil Mama and KeKe Palmer as TLC for the upcoming biopic....

VH1 has released the first official promo pic for "Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story".  And it made us do a double take.

Drew Sidora (as T-Boz), KeKe Palmer (as Chilli) and Lil Mama (as Left Eye) are going hard in transforming into the favorite girl group who sang, rapped and danced to the tune of bright colors, controversial safe sex messages and everything in between.

For the official promo shot, the three ladies re-enacted TLC's 1992 album cover for Oooooh On The TLC Tip.... And we're actually feelin' it.

The TV movie was shot in just a few weeks in Atlanta recently, and will give the story of how TLC rose to fame, their trials and tribulations with money and managers, and what went on in their personal lives.

The "TLC Story" airs this November, and you can calm your nerves because the girls will be lip synching to TLC's actual music.  T-Boz & Chilli, the two surviving members, served as consultants on the movie.

With a script by acclaimed screenwriter Kate Lanier (“What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “Set it Off,” “Beauty Shop”), the untitled film is slated to begin shooting in early 2013.

This is so sad. Natina Reed was laid to rest Saturday, just a week after her tragic death in Atlanta.

Via UK Daily Mail reports:

Standing wrapped in his father’s arms, 10-year-old Tren Brown smiles bravely at the funeral of his mother Natina Reed.

The only child of the R & B star, the youngster was joined by friends, family and stars of the music scene as Natina was laid to rest in her hometown.

Tren’s father, the rapper Kurupt, footed the bill for the service and the reception afterwards so that his son could say a proper goodbye to his mother.

Tren has lived with his father since he was six and will continue to do so.

On Saturday, the 39-year-old rapper tweeted: ‘We luv u Natina ….. #MissedButNotForgottin.’

The Bring It On star’s funeral took place on Saturday at Abundant Life Church in Lithonia, Georgia with many of her friends and family present.

Members of the late singer’s 1990s all-girl group Blaque were said to be in attendance, as well as Chilli and T-Boz from TLC and rappers Big Boi, Daz and Snoop Dogg.

Natina was killed in Georgia on the night of October 26 after being struck by a car. She was two days shy of her 32nd birthday.

The driver of the vehicle who hit the singer called 911 at 10.30pm, according to the Gwinnett Police Department.

Just 29 minutes later Natina was pronounced dead at Gwinnett Medical Center.

A press release said that Natina ‘was in the roadway on Lawrenceville Highway near Hamilton Road when struck.’

Police said that the driver ‘was determined to be not at fault and there are no charges pending.’

Natina had been living at an extended stay motel at the time of her death, and had only been 12 miles from the $45 per night StudioPlus Atlanta Peachtree Corners in Norcross, Georgia when the accident happened.

She had been wearing dark clothing in an unlit area when she died, and police were trying to determine whether she was walking in the road or attempting to cross it.

Many of her friends have expressed their grief over Natina’s untimely passing.

‘Last night the world was changed forever, life will never be the same… she was my sister,’ Brandi Williams, singer and former Blaque bandmember, tweeted.

Brandi, Natina and Shamari Fears-Devoe had several hits throughout the 1990s including their most famous, Bring It All To Me.

Shamari also paid tribute to her former bandmate on Twitter, writing: ‘My world as I know it has forever changed. Until we meet again, may you find comfort in the arms of an angel. I love you Natina.’

Besides a music career, Natina appeared in the hit movie Bring It On in 2000, playing a cheerleader for the Clovers.

Rest in Peace Natina.
