Two Chicago teens are suing the Boys and Girls Clubs, saying the organization erred in hiring a convicted felon who they say made inappropriate sexual advances when they were minors.
The women, both 18, claim abuse by Zale Hoddenbach, a former club employee awaiting trial on sexual assault charges. One of the plaintiffs in the civil case says Hoddenbach had sex with her at least three times in a motel when she was 16 and threatened to post bare-bodied photos of her on Facebook if she did not comply.
Hoddenbach had a lengthy rap sheet before seeming to turn his life around by mentoring students on avoiding violence as a counselor for the Boys and Girls Clubs and CeaseFire. At the time of his 2011 arrest, his lawyer disputed the criminal charges.
“He has mentored hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people and not once has anyone ever accused him of something like this,” said the attorney, Dennis Doherty. “It’s outrageous.”
A spokeswoman for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America didn’t immediately return messages seeking comment Tuesday evening.
These are some pretty heavy accusations for these girls to just “make up.” Something sounds shady about his lawyer’s defense for sure….
