OPRAH WINFREY RUMORED TO OPEN EMMYS: E! Says She’s Agreed to Make an Appearance At the Beginning of the Show.
*Will Oprah Winfrey grace the 2008 Emmy Awards stage this year? E! Online is reporting that the talk show tycoon is set to open the Sept. 21 ceremony at the new Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
“It’s still unclear what the talk-show queen will do, but she has agreed to be on stage for the first moments of the live telecast,” a source tells the Web site.
Winfrey took herself out of Emmy contention back in 1999 following several years of sweeping the “talk show host” and “talk show” categories.
For next month’s presentation, producers have booked five co-hosts from the world of reality TV — “American Idol’s” Ryan Seacrest, “Project Runway’s” Heidi Klum, “Dancing With the Stars’” Tom Bergeron, “Deal or No Deal’s” Howie Mandel and Jeff Probst of “Survivor.”
