MICHELLE’S PRICEY SNEAKERS CAUSING DRAMA: First Lady Wears $540 Footwear to Feed the Homeless.
A “shoe-gate” situation is brewing in the White House.
Several outlets are making a big deal about the $540 sneakers worn by Michelle Obama on Wednesday while volunteering at a Washington D.C. food bank for the homeless.
“They’re “certainly not a reflection of the poor economy,” quipped FOX News’ Noelle Watters, host of iMag Style. An online poll at the New York Daily News’ Web site showed that 59% thought her shoe choice was in poor taste for a poverty event.
The kicks, which come in denim or satin (sold at Barneys), are made by Lanvin and are favored by the likes of Kanye West and Ellen DeGeneres. The pair Obama wore to the Capitol Area Food Bank for Feeding America event Wednesday was gray and pink.

Meanwhile, no one knows if the shoes were a gift, purchased on sale, or – as the New York Daily News surmised - acquired through Ikram, the Chicago retailer that usually outfits her.
The Daily News’ Amy Diluna also noted, “Michelle has stepped out in Lanvin before while getting down to business. A week ago, she shoveled dirt at a tree planting while wearing the line’s chiffon tank. …[Lanvin] dresses and strappy pumps cost upward of $1,500, while tops go for $400 to $1,000.”
Meanwhile, Mrs. Obama’s style has landed her at No. 93 on Maxim’s “eyeball-searing, fantasy-fulfilling, brain-exploding” Hot 100 list, which was announced Friday.
