In what may be his first big screen role since ‘Blade II’, Entertainment Weekly posted the first look of Wesley Snipes, along with Don Cheadle, in ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’, which is being directed by Antoine Fuqua.
Three unconnected Brooklyn cops wind up at the same deadly location after enduring vastly different career paths.
Snipes will play a drug dealer and Cheadle is an undercover officer, respectively.
Also staring in the film are Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Ellen Barkin, Jesse Williams, Sarah Thompson, and Hassan Johnson (from HBO’s The Wire). Williams plays a rookie cop under Richard Gere.
Snipes has been in the news lately over his legal issues for not paying taxes. He’s working with the govenment hoping to avoid any jail time. Coming up next for Snipes is another straight-to-DVD film, but actually a sequel to a film that played in theaters, ‘The Art of War II: Betrayal’. Until ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’ comes out, Snipes would have had 8 films that went to straight-to-DVD.
Before anyone starts to fact-check, ‘Blade: Trinity’ did play in theaters in 2004 but if you saw the film, Snipes played second fiddle to Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel and didn’t help promote the film.
His role in ‘Finest’ may not be a leading but it’s a step to get back in the big leagues.
‘Brooklyn’s Finest’ opens in 2009.
It’s All Reel
