Not guilty verdict in case against ex-Houston officer Andrew Blomberg

So the cops and people of America feel it’s just “kill black boy” season:

A fired Houston police officer has been found not guilty of official oppression in the videotaped beating of a teen burglar. The Harris County jury found 29-year-old Andrew Blomberg not guilty of official oppression. He was fired from the Houston Police Department after a videotape surfaced of the beating of Chad Holley during his March 2010 arrest. Holley was 15 years old at the time of the beating and arrest. He was later convicted of the burglary.

The jury began deliberating the case at about noon on Tuesday, and returned to their deliberation at 9:30am today. They returned a verdict shortly after 11am.

Houston Mayor Annise Parker said, “I do not agree with the verdict. No way he will ever again be a Houston police officer.”

“This was a just verdict,” said KTRK legal analyst Joel Androphy. “Police officers have different boundaries than the rest of us. This officer was acquitted because police officers get extra benefit of the doubt.”

Community activist Quanell X called the verdict not simply a miscarriage of justice, but an “abortion.”

“They just said to black people that the police can do whatever they want to do and get away with it. They just sent a message to all of us that our lives don’t mean a (darn) thing in Harris County,” Quanell X said.

The situation at the courthouse has been heated ever since closing arguments on Tuesday morning, and tensions escalated there after the not guilty verdict was announced.

Blomberg was held in the courtroom for safety reasons for more than 30 minutes after the verdict was read. The situation in the hallway was described as ‘chaos.’

Outside the building, Blomberg told reporters, “I’m glad it’s over and I’m going home… just going to take a deep breath and reassess after this, see what I want to do.”

Blomberg said that he would not seek to get his HPD officer job back.

Ray Hunt, president of the Houston Police Officers’ Union, says he hopes there is no lingering commotion in community. However, Quanell X is reportedly calling for a protest, and suggests that ‘if people are going to be violent, then they’re going to be violent.’

Those speaking for the Black United Front reportedly said to “let justice reign in the streets.”

The Reverend Robert Jefferon with the Cullen Missionary Baptist Church told Eyewitness News, “Yes, I do feel they whooped that boy unmercifully, and somebody should be punished, yes I do.”

If convicted, Blomberg could have faced up to a year in jail and/or up to a $4,000 fine.

Androphy adds that this verdict has sent a strong message to the prosecution that it’s going to be difficult to convict the three other officers charged in connection with this beating case.

HPD Chief Charles McClelland released a statement which read in part:
“I would like to thank the jury for their hard work and dedication in listening to the evidence and rendering a decision in this case. I understand that some will disagree with the verdict, and although no system is perfect, our system of jurisprudence provides appropriate safeguards to protect our freedom.
“I also appreciate the citizens of Houston and trust that they will continue to express themselves in a manner that is respectful of the rights and privileges we all share. It is important to remember that the officer that was the subject of this trial is no longer a Houston police officer and that a separate and distinct administrative process has confirmed his termination from the Houston Police Department. He will never again be a Houston Police Officer.”

Mayor Parker also said that the actions of the officers allegedly involved in the beating don’t represent the thousands of other officers in HPD.

Harris Co. District Attorney Pat Lykos said in a statement, “Although, I respectfully disagree with the decision, I accept it and thank the jurors for their service. We have the best criminal justice system in the world. We are prepared to go to trial on the remaining three cases and request the court to set speedy trials.”

She told the Houston Chronicle: ‘Paige told me she killed JR, that he was dead.’ Mrs Wright had just dropped her son off at the house at 11.30pm on Sunday and that was after taking him to Wal-Mart to buy flowers and a Mother’s Day card for Paige. Barkin, 22, was stabbed several times and died just after midnight in the backyard of his yellow rental house. Mrs Wright said she believes Parkerson expected a more expensive gift, such as jewelry.

Pastor Marvin Winans was robbed and carjacked at a Detroit gas station Wednesday afternoon.

Winans was at the Citgo Gas Station at Linwood and the Davison when he was robbed. The carjackers robbed him and took his deep purple Infiniti QX56 SUV.

The license plate number on the vehicle is 0DRT73. Detroit Police are searching for the suspects.

He was not hurt in the incident, but was roughed up.

Pastor Winans told Action News he felt something was wrong when he came out of the gas station’s convenience store.

He says four men followed him out and assaulted him while he was pumping gas. They robbed him, punched him and even ripped off his pants.

Pastor Winans says he’s ok, but is more saddened that it has come to this.

“This kind of nonsense just has to stop… it’s just the savageness of what’s happening in the streets. We just have to take a look at ourselves and say this has to stop,” said Pastor Winans.

The legendary pastor most recently gave the eulogy at Whitney Houston’s funeral.

Robert Downey Jr. Set To Make $50 Million Dollars From The Avengers

Robert Downey Jr. is prone to making mathematical gestures on the red carpet, but he’s going to need more than ten fingers to sift through his payout from “Marvel’s The Avengers.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 47-year-old actor stands to make about $50 million from the film.

Downey’s “Avengers” co-stars stand to make a fraction of his earnings, in part because of a savvy deal the “Iron Man” lead reportedly renegotiated, under which he would receive a portion of Marvel’s revenue from any future film in which he plays Tony Stark. He allegedly rejiggered the deal when the first “Iron Man” film dialed up $585 million in 2008.

Though Downey’s deal is not unheard of for the rarefied circle of Hollywood’s biggest names, it’s a great deal more than any of his “Avengers” cohorts. Sources say Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will each ultimately make $2 million to $3 million from the film.

Marvel has a history of cutting sharp deals. Terrence Howard, who starred with Downey Jr. in the first “Iron Man” film, was reportedly faced with a 50 to 80 percent pay cut for the sequel after the studio learned director Jon Favreau planned to limit his role. Howard’s agents smarted, and though it’s unknown if he walked out or if Marvel decided to go a different direction, Don Cheadle replaced Howard for the sequel.

“The Avengers” continues to smash through box office records and recently surpassed the $1 billion mark in global earnings, so the $50 million payout is unlikely to put a big dent in Marvel’s balance sheet. The film is currently making “Avatar”-type money, a big relief to Disney, which bought Marvel and desperately needed a hit after the crippling loss it suffered on “John Carter.”

Homeless Couple Accused of Stealing Pop-Tarts

Damn, dude was serious about these Pop-Tarts!!

Jourdan Keever thought it a “loving gesture” when her husband rubbed her back in the Vero Beach truck stop. It might also be described as a criminal gesture as hubby William Keever apparently was preparing a Pop-Tarts and Slim Jim heist. Indian River County Sheriff’s officials unraveled the May 9 breakfast pastry and packaged meat crime after traveling to a gas station near the TA truck stop on 20th Street, according to recently released records.

The truck stop general manager told deputies he followed the couple after an employee indicated they might have engaged in some inappropriate appropriating. Store cameras showed William Keever, 22, hiding things in a backpack his wife was wearing.

Jourdan Keever, 23, let the manager look through the backpack, where he discovered some Pop-Tarts and a Slim Jim.

The Pop-Tarts were of the Frosted S’mores variety while the Slim Jim was a 1.5 ounce Beef ‘n Cheese mild product, a photo provided by the sheriff’s office shows.
William Keever is accused of grabbing the backpack and running toward a wooded area. The truck stop general manager told him to stop, but he didn’t.

Jourdan Keever thought it a “loving gesture” when she felt her husband “touching/rubbing her back/backpack area.” She didn’t know he was stashing victuals in her backpack.

Making someone an unwitting participant in a misdemeanor theft is not typically considered a “loving gesture.”

Jourdan Keever was arrested and taken to jail.

A deputy later learned William Keever was trying to bail his wife out of jail. He was arrested and fessed up to putting the goods in his wife’s backpack. He said she was unaware of the food filching.

William Keever and his wife, both listed as homeless, each were arrested on a retail theft charge, while William Keever also was arrested on a resist merchant without violence charge.

Poor lady! She had to go to jail when her shady husband was doing all the Slim Jim ganking…SMH.
