Earl Sweatshirt, arguably Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All’s most talented spitter, is taking full advantage of his return from exile by dropping another provocative video, this time for his latest single, “Whoa,” from his upcoming LP, Doris.
In the Wolf Haley-directed clip, the teenage rapper born Thebe Kgositsile can be seen waking up with a well-past-her-prime ballerina in a grungy bedroom in a nondescript trailer in what looks like a bottom-tier trailer park/junkyard. Sweatshirt upholds his reputation as a provocateur, spitting witty one-liners, “Pen? Naw, probably written with some used syringe/explains from out the rubbish bin at your local loony clinic/watching movies in a room full of goons he rented.”
OFWGKTA frontman Tyler, the Creator works the hook for the Tara Razavi-produced track, dropping oft-kilter lines like “Looking bummy, posted on the block, like I ain't make a quarter million off of socks, ni--a, cause it's the G-O-L-F-dub-A-N-G.”
For over three minutes, the duo traverses a series a nonsensical images that include Earl floating in a swimming pool barely filled with tepid water as a member of the crew circles him on a skateboard and a BMX bike. Meanwhile, Tyler ups the outrageous ante by rhyming while being pushed in a creaking shopping cart that topples over mid-sentence.
Of course, no Odd Future visual would be complete without crew cameos. This time around, Trash Talk make an appearance to share in the anomalous fun. Earl still doesn't have a solid release date for his sophomore opus.
