Chicago Church Honors A Gospel Music Great
Pilgrim Baptist Church in Chicago is honoring the man known as the father of gospel music. The church and its choir put on a musical tribute to Thomas A. Dorsey Sunday afternoon.
Dorsey was the music director of the church from 1932 till 1970. His most famous work is “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.”
Pilgrim Baptist was destroyed in a fire that broke out in January 2006 during renovation of the building’s roof. The church is still in the process of rebuilding.

This video isn’t footage of the tribute, it’s from a movie called “Say Amen, Somebody” circa 1982.
