Why are some preachers just so old-fashioned and won't have ANY--and I mean any--comedy at church?

I mean come on! Some preachers tell jokes to get a point, and at the same time, to lighten the mood a bit!

alot of preachers dont believe in lightening the mood. church is not a social club. its a place to learn the word of God.

Wow, we have jokes at church all the time. The senior pastor of our group of churches (New Hope in Hawaii) is always telling quite funny jokes--he is part Portugese and he tells lots of funny but clean Portugese jokes. It actually helps drive home some of the messages, as well.

It doen't haft to be a preacher to have no humor, a lot of people are like that. but some do.

Preachers??? I know ordinary people who are like that. So it may just be his personality. (Don't judge) Just for fun some time, tyr and find some humorus antedotes out of the preaching of Christ. You might find that He didn't use a lot of comedy either. You might also consider the wanrnings in the Bible against preachers who "tickle people ears".

Most the preachers I've listened to use jokes. As my pastor says, "We take God seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously." Explains why during October aka Stewardship Month, we have skits featuring Stew the Stewardship Angel. :)

Whether or not a preacher tries to lighten the mood probably depends on their personality. Some are wound a little tighter than others... :)
