| The Beatles most definitely! Theyre the one and only bands who is still selling millions of albums since they exploded onto the charts. Sure, Michael Jackson's selling a lot, but that's only recently because he died. Everyone likes him now, but the Beatls have been so influential to anything, from music, to advertising. its pretty amazing. Powered by Yahoo Answers |

| Michael Jackson (by far!) because Michael Jackson had an impact on the world not just with music, but with fashion. Where did glittery gloves, military jackets, short pants, shiny socks/shoes, and those hats come from? That's got to count for something. Plus, a lot of singers nowadays say that he inspired them to write certain songs, or something like that. His inspirational will last longer. Powered by Yahoo Answers |

| the beatles had the bigger influence and here's why: 1.their influence on pop culture is still being felt even today;for more on that read this link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles%27_influence_on_popular_culture 2.they changed the way that bands use the recording studio to make music, for more details check out this link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beatles%27_recording_technology 3.one of the 1st groups to treat an album as a work of art in its own right instead of just a collection of singles 4.they unofficially halted the practice of artists making foreign language versions of their hit singles, thus unofficially making english the official language of rock and roll and all its sub-genres.klaus meine of the scorpions said that when they started, that the only way they would really make it big was to record in english.i attribute this to the beatles influence 5.they made it fashionable for men to grow their hair long 6.they pioneered the big world tours as we know them today,i think the beatles were actually the first band to go on a world tour 7.they were the first band to actually express their true feelings on major world issues of the day instead of keeping quiet(as brian epstein wanted them too) 8.they were the ones who brought the music and instrumentation of india to the west(first western rock band to use indian instruments on record) 9.they were the 1st rock group to actually make money from their record sales and have record sales in the millions.let's put things in perspective, before the beatles record companies used singles and albums to promote the live show of whatever artist it was because the live shows where were the real money was.it wasn't expected for an artist to actually make any money from their singles or albums.in fact before the beatles you could sell 200,000 copies of your latest record and have a hit(nowadays, you sell that much its considered a flop).at 1 point during i want to hold your hand's run on the charts,it sold over 1.5 million copies in 5 days, that's 300,000 copies a day,in 1964 this was unheard of.no artist back then was expected to sell that many copies of anything.in fact the next single can't buy me love had so many advance orders(over 1.5 million)it actually debuted at number 1 on the singles charts.nowadays, with soundscan and all that acts debuting at number 1 is old news, but in 1964 it was news because no one had ever done it before in america. 10.1st rock group to take a stand against segregation:when a rumor went out that the audiences at a beatles concert at the gator bowl were going to be segregated, the beatles and their manager sent a letter to the venue owners stating if they were going to do that, then they could have their money back and that the beatles weren't going to do the show.now there were never plans to do that, but it says a lot about the beatles to take that type of a stand. 11.one of the 1st rock groups to start their own record label. 12.one of the first bands(if not the first)to have the drummer as a featured singer thus paving the way for bands lke genesis and the eagles who have the drummer as their lead singer(or 1 of their lead singers) 13.have massive popularity worldwide, not just in the us or uk,read this link to get an idea:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Beatles%27_record_sales 14.they also influenced songwriters by departing from the standard 3 chord pop song with the standard verse-chorus-verse-middle eight and why because the beatles had no formal musical training and this gave them the freedom to ignore the conventional rules of pop music and of song-writing in general.in fact the beatles never allowed themselves to be bound by the conventional rules of pop and rock, they were always constantly pushing the boundaries of modern music.look at the single of hey jude in 1968,at the time no pop single was more than 3 minutes long and why?that was one of the traditions of the time, but the beatles went against the tradition and it paid off Powered by Yahoo Answers |

| In general Michael Jackson, as for music I would also say MJ by a layperson standard. I am not familiar with technical terms regarding music but what I can say as a person who is a casual listener of music, the beatles sounds like ancient music, I can tell right away that they are from way back. As for MJ his sound from his first self produce off the wall, if I was told it was created this year I would believe it. It still sounds fresh, and what I have concluded upon listening to music around MJ's off the wall and thriller is that, from this point on music sounded modern. In other words, today's music sounds like MJ music so in my opinion he made today's sound. And I need not even debate about music videos. just take a look and it is obvious music videos are either before thriller era or from thriller and on. I am answering from Japan, and MJ practically was synomonis to American Culture. He was American culture to many parts of the world. He was an embassador for the US. That is one reason I do not understand how the US belittled him. I also think the beatles were a music phenomonon in a specific category but MJ crossed over and created an art form ranging from pop, soul, rock, r&b, some hip hop, funk. If you took his albums from his first solo you can physically see the evolution of music history. Now I am not an expert in music so you would have to ask another but to me every album has a different sound to it. I also want to point out stage performance. He turned it into something that presents you with a story concept. The beatles would just stand and play which I found to be very boring. And finally His dance and music integrated into one art form. I believe he wrote music with dance in mind and vice versa. He also had the impact to unite people, in my opinion due to his loving character and action while he was living, his beautiful melody and lyrics and also maybe because he was a single figure. But his death showed the world that we can come together as one for something we all cared about. It was beautiful how from asia to europe, africa to america, and the middle east there were people mourning and paying tribute. All in all, I do think MJ had more impact on the modern world both generally and musically especially globally, but maybe the beatles influenced MJ. This is how history is created, you are influenced from what comes before you and you revolutionize. In my opinion that is what happened regarding the relationship with MJ and the beatles. | The Beatles made artists like Michael Jackson possible. Even with MTV and near-complete media saturation, Jackson has never equaled the Beatles' music sales. During the Beatles' time, TV and radio were very limited for pop/rock performers, while Jackson had the benefit of hundreds of TV stations. Michael Jackson and his brothers in fact started out as cartoon characters on the Jackson 5 cartoon, but the Beatles started out by releasing their own singles and albums. The Beatles wrote all their own music and played their own instruments, whereas Michael Jackson wrote very few of his own songs and never played a single note on any song. Sure, MJ gets more attention now because of his recent death, but no other group or artist has had the impact on the globe that The Beatles have. Powered by Yahoo Answers |
