Rev Howard "Slim" HuntBirth: 1935

North Carolina, USA
Gospel Singer. He began his musical career in Milwaukee, when he joined the gospel group the Soul Seekers in the early 1950s. He later joined the Supreme Angels, as a singer and guitar player and recorded his first record in 1956. The group traveled the country playing gospel music, rock 'n' roll and blues tunes. By the 1970s, Hunt re-created the group under the name, Slim and the Supreme Angels, was signed to Malaco Records and became a top national gospel act. They had many hit records, including "Shame on You," which went gold in 1974, "Lord Bring Me Down," and "Death & The Beautiful Lady." As leader of The Supreme Angels, he took the group to the top of the industry. He was a Grammy Award nominee and a recipient of the Stellar Gospel Music Award, with tunes "Stay Under The Blood," "Over Yonder" and "Blind Man." In 1986, he entered the ministry and was ordained as Reverend Hunt. He founded the Deliverance Temple in Dillon, South Carolina and the Deliverance Temple Church of God in Christ in Goldsboro. He continued to tour and preach until his death and was regarded as a legend in the gospel music and religious community. (bio by:
