Lena Horne even though her career was before the 70's....her, or Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Mary Lou Williams...there are so many that come to mind...great question!

My memories are that in the 1970's there were a few artists who were more pop than jazz singers but they did sing some jazz tunes. Natalie Cole, The Pointer Sisters and even Linda Rondstad. None of which qualifies as the 'Queen Of Jazz'.

But there are many who were singing then who would qualify, tho they started their careers long before the '70's.

Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Carmen McRae, Nina Simone, Betty Carter and the list goes on and on. To learn more about this just read here:
