I can't get over how bad this problem is getting...when can they do something about these kids walking in and shooting people. I think it's scary that my kids have to learn lockdowns at school.

When I was in school all we had to learn was bomb threat safety...man!!!

Kids would feel like prisoners and possibly be distracted from their studies if they had to constantly be on the defense.
It is getting very crazy. Most of the gunmen are ex students. What makes someone so angry that they have to kill innocent people?

That's the question I think everyone needs to know the answer to. It was said today in the news that he got really depressed after he went off his meds. But that isn't an excuse to go around shooting people.

That's what happens if guns are freely available to everyone, no matter whether they are sane or not...

It will always be that way... no matter where you live...people can get guns if they need them.

Define "need." There was absolutely no need for this guy to obtain a gun. Plus, I don't think it is true "no matter where you live." There aren't shootings in schools every few months over here!!

I'm afraid that, whilst that may be true in some cases, it is certainly not true in all. Having guns in a house makes it more likely that a child is going to pick up one of those guns when he/she is depressed, or pissed off. Now, if you have guns in the house of a child that is not sane, then there is more chance that he/she is going to go on a rampage and kill students.

I've read a little more news since my last response. It turns out that there were 4 gun incidents in schools last week. That is just unbelievable. Now, you show me four incidents of shooting in a YEAR over here, and then perhaps I'll listen to the arguments that "if someone wants a gun badly enough then theyll find one."

It's about time the laws change... and they WILL do sometime in the future, I guarantee it.

So where are you from Adam? I'm in Canada. I know there have been some cases...but they are few and far between. It does happen. It does seem like most of them happen in the States.

Don't think that I am approving of all this...when Columbine happened I took it upon myself to teach teens that when they have problems to talk about it instead of going and shooting the heck out of everyone...

I just think that guns are too easy to access anywhere. I refuse to have a gun in my house...now or ever. My husband likes to hunt and says that it would be locked up and tied up and everything but I still don't like it all.

I kinda agree with Adam here. What's the necessity when it comes to having a gun? Why is a gun a must in a household? I'd like to know the statistics of the cases where a gun actually warded off a thief or intruder vs that gun being stolen by a child and taken out of the house.

Okay...so most houses probably don't have guns...so they go out and find one. Are these guns used in school shootings ones that were in the home? If they are I missed that part of the conversation...

But the point is that it is precisely the fact that guns are so "easy to find" that is the problem! Anyone can walk into a gun shop and buy pretty much anything they want-- this will have to change!

In fact, two of the weapons used were obtained legally

I thought there was a waiting time after you bought a gun?
