Download the program "Audacity". Download link: http://audacity.sourceforge.net . All you have to do is select "Stereo Mix" from the drop down menu and click record. Audacity will then start recording what is coming out of your speakers.

Converting the sound into mp3 is a bit trickier. Once you've recorded what you want, go to file and click on "export as mp3". Audacity will tell you that you're missing "lame.dll". Just copy the exact name of the file it needs and Google it. Download the ".dll" file and tell Audacity where you saved it (you'll see the option to do that when it tells you what you're missing). Once you do that, you're on your way to converting files into mp3 in Audacity!

I used Audacity when I was in class and needed to record a song from a video. It is a great program. Just make sure not to type or anything because the program will pick up those sounds as well.
