Mariah Carey Marries Nick Cannon: Reports

Top-selling recording artist Mariah Carey and popular rap singer and actor Nick Cannon married this week in the Bahamas, according to several media reports.
The New York Post said on Thursday the pair wed in a secret ceremony in front of family and friends at Carey's house in Eleuthera, citing a source close to Carey.

, the Web site for Latina magazine, cited a source near Cannon as saying the nuptials took place on Wednesday, and In Touch Weekly said Cannon had designed a $2.5 million ring he gave to his new bride.
The reports could not be immediately confirmed and representatives for Carey and Cannon did not return e-mails or phone calls for comment.
Carey, 38, recently released the No. 1 single "Touch My Body" off her album "E=MC2," which also debuted on record charts as the best-selling album in mid-April. She has enjoyed tremendous success as a recording artist starting in 1990 with her self-titled debut album.
Cannon, 11 years younger than Carey, has acted on television and in films such as 2002's "Drumline" and "Shall We Dance?" and he made his singing debut with a self-titled album in 2003 and followed up in 2006 with "Stages."
The pair met when Cannon directed a video for her recent single, "Bye, Bye," and have been dating for several weeks, according to reports.
Carey was married previously to record executive Tommy Mottola, but they divorced in 1998. It is Cannon's first marriage.

"I'm shell shocked," a source in Carey's camp tells PEOPLE. "As far as I know, they are happy together."

Music mogul Russell Simmons said he didn't know about the nuptials ahead of time, but sees why the pairing works. "Whatever makes them happy," he said Friday. "They have a lot in common and should have a lot of fun together."

Even Cannon's family was surprised by the move. "It's crazy right! We're definitely happy. Well wishes!" Cannon's brother, Gabriel, tells PEOPLE. "I'm trying to be like him and I love him very much."

Another insider says the newlyweds didn't know each other before Carey's video shoot for her song "Bye, Bye" in the Caribbean on March 26. "Nick was cast as the romantic lead and was flown to Antigua where they met so basically their [romance] started during the shoot," the insider says, adding, "She's very into religion and Nick is very into religion. That's something they bonded on."

Still, others seem more dubious of the whirlwind romance.

"This is what Nick does; Nick is such a sucker for love," said a source close to Cannon. "He falls in love so quick."

Adds another Cannon insider: "We all thought it was a joke, but he's been impulsive before. He's a mini mogul but still young and maybe this was a crush that went too far.

"Well see. He takes awhile to come down from the cloud."

I wonder if all this is true. There were reports and rumors that it was just a marketing tactic. If she truly got married, I wish her the best and I hope this marriage can work out for her. She endured many tough situations in the past.

I'm also a little skeptical about this. IF it's true, they did a great job of hiding it from the public.
I did hear reports that Nick gave Mariah the same ring he offered somebody else.
