![]() | Is there any way to downgrade or just switch operating systems? I bought a computer that came installed with Vista and I hate it. Anyway to get XP or 2000 without having to buy it (in place of Vista, not stolen copies)? Does Microsoft allow you to switch if you're not happy?

![]() | Service pack 1 promised more speed to Vista users, however I was able to beta test, and try it after the first stable release, and it is little to no help. Microsoft is doing more just through small updates the OS gets once a week or so. The only possible way to downgrade from Vista is to totally wipe the hard disk and put a fresh install of another OS, which can be costly, and on top of that you would most likely have to have someone help you. The solution I give people is to switch to a free open-source Linux OS like Ubuntu. You can have Ubuntu send you free CD-ROM's by mail. Best of all, with Linux everything is open-source (free). The only problem Linux has is running specific things like Photoshop and most games. So to play games or use specialty programs like Photoshop you would need to switch back over to Vista every once in a while (Just when it is starting up you can switch whether you want to use Ubuntu or Vista at the time). Other then that, Ubuntu runs everything amazingly, it is incredibly fast on the internet, you can use it to listen to music like anything else, and you can download free word-processing programs and games. It is a definite choice for people who aren't using their computers for gaming or graphics design (then again, while using Photoshop or playing games vista wouldn't be actively running anything anyway so it wouldn't be a problem. Let me know if you have any questions, that was probably a lot, and I am writing this on a total caffiene high.

![]() | Microsoft has made this one hard to kill. You have to be pretty experienced to take this one off. But unlike what someone at a tech shop will tell you it is very possible. I had to convert 32 vista computers for a home health agency a couple of months ago.

![]() | 32 huh? Do those computers now use the open source software you were talking about? Just goes to show that no one likes being force fed. Microsoft should've given us a choice. i'd take Windows 98 over Vista. Seriously. |

![]() | I plan to change Vista from my laptop because I hate it. Right now I am trying to sign on Yahoo Messenger and it won't allow me no matter what I try. *sigh* |

![]() | I didn't see Agent99's reply to this. But the computers now run Windows XP. It is far cheaper to just buy expensive OS' rather than train people to use something else.
