ZoneAlarm from Zone Labs, Inc. - This is my favorite firewall. Made by Zone Labs, it will render your computer invisible to hackers’ probes. Hackers run scanning programs over the Internet, looking for computers with electronic openings, called ports. A good firewall such as ZoneAlarm makes your computer invisible to the scanners. (Note: This program phones home)

The goal of these intruders is to place a Trojan horse on your computer. The rogue program uses the open port previously identified by a scanner. However, ZoneAlarm blocks those transmissions. They can only go through if you agree. Always say no, unless you recognize the program.

Outpost Firewall from Agnitum - The free version of Outpost Firewall offers a basic protection solution for casual web surfers and low budget systems. There is also a "Pro" version with more robust features.

CWShredder from InterMute - CW Shredder removes some variants of spyware known as the Coolwebsearch Trojan. The Trojan takes advantage of a flaw in a key component of Windows -- Microsoft's version of the Java Virtual Machine -- to install itself via popups often found on porn and illegal software (a.k.a. "warez") sites. Run CWShredder after installing, and have it look for updates. Then click the "Fix" button, and the program will both scan and fix any problems it finds. If your system does not have this kind of spyware, it will give you the good news.

But that's not freeware, or opensource. You just linked to a website that happens to have a free copy uploaded illegally. That's entirely different to the software actually being free!

The topic title is Free Software for you Computer..Chique posted a link to a piece of software that is free. Maybe the software might have to be paid for, but Chique has given us a link to download it for free. So it fully qualifies for this thread.

I think what adam is trying to say is the link that chique gave is not the the real website of the software but the software is uploaded in a filehosting website unlike the links that i posted.

That's precisely my point. Consider this analogy: If I walk into a shop, lift a coat off the stand and then walk out without paying then I have obtained a free coat. If someone comes up to me and gives me a coat, then I have also obtained a free coat. Alfren's links are an example of the latter, whereas chique's is an example of the former. I don't think we'd encourage people to steal coats, or that anyone here would walk into a shop and take a coat, but this is analogous to what is being done here.
