I need a program that's free and simple to use, and won't destroy my computer with viruses and such. It just seems like a waste of money to purchase movies I already own on DVD through iTunes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

well, i'm not sure if you have a mac or not, but if you do- isquint is a free application that will convert your dvd's to ipod. But you'll have to rip your dvd to your computer first, then drag it into isquint.
Another application is Handbrake. Google search it. you can rip your dvd's to your computer. but if you want it for your ipod-you'll have to adjust the size to 320x240 (i think).

First, you can get HandBrake from http://handbrake.m0k.org
It is totally free.
And it is a pretty good DVD to iPod converter.

In case it fails to meet your needs, you can turn to Wondershare DVD to iPod Ripper, which I Googled not long ago. It helps to put DVD movies including those copyright protected ones onto iPod nano with great output video & audio quality and desirable conversion speed.

You must make sure the video is mp4 format for iPod. If not, you may try some third party software. I recommend Cucusoft DVD to iPod Video Suite to convert DVD movie and convert videos in any format to iPod. It is the fastest converter I have used. You can download this software free from here

But in my personal experience,the freeware always have some problems more or less.its qualityu can not be guaranteed
