| 5x + 8y = 930 <--cost of each ticket - (x + y = 150) <---number of each ticket 1. Find for tickets sold at $8 each by using system of operations: 5x + 8y = 930 - (x + y = 150) (subtract, but first find a common x, so multiply bottom by 5) 2. You now have: (Now, find y..number of $8 tickets) 5x + 8y = 930 -5x - 5y = -750(multiply everything by 5 and then subtract) ____________ 3y = 180 (x cancels out) y = 60 tickets at $8 each 150 - 60 = 90 tickets at $5 each Answer: 90 tickets at $5 each = $450 60 tickets at $8 each = $480 $450 + $480 = $930 Powered by Yahoo Answers |
