Was MTV ever on top of the hill?

Um...yeah, and falling farther by the minute. Have you seen what they've been running the last few years, it's not even music-related anymore.

Has Mtv gone down the hill? It's more like Mtv has gone in the direction of "The Hills." They'd rather play awful "reality" tv shows all day, and obviously it gets the ratings they're after. Which is, you know, awful.
They still do play music videos, though. You just have to be up at 3am with a strong desire to watch crap like The Pussycat Dolls' "music" set to video. Ugh. They even got rid of TRL, which was horrible but at least it showed 10 second clips of music videos. The best Mtv does is call attention to good bands (Bloc Party, M.I.A., Rilo Kiley, Kings of Leon, etc) while the credits roll between episodes of the godawfulness they pass off as "reality television."

Yes, I feel like MTV has gone down hill. Like, what happened to TRL? How are the pop videos going to air? I think that MTV are geared more towards reality shows and has lost it's touch with music in general..

Yeah, it has gone down hill. But it's been like that since 2000 and beyond. I really don't even know why it's still called MTV. They should just call it RTV (reality tv). I haven't watched it for years.

I agree. MTV is getting progressingly worse and as my music is becoming more diverse, I've been watching videos on VH1 Classic, Fuse, and sometimes MTV2 (I've noticed that they play less of the pop crap than MTV. And then I'll listen to music on Music Choice every now and then.

It definitely has. At one point they actually did play music, mostly during the 80's and early 90's then all the "reality" shoes came on and it went down hill from there. The only music station I watch now is VH1 Classic.
