Signs is one that scared me.
The new Drag me to **** is probably NOT scary FYI.
I don't normally watch horror movies because I don't usually get scared so they are usually boring.

Texas Chain Saw Massacre. I've watched Scream, The Exorcist, Silence of the Lambs, Prom Night, The Unborn, Saw 1,2,3,4 etc, without batting an eyelid. But I lasted like 10 minutes before I had to turn it off... REALLY terrified me. Good Luck with that one...

Some of the more exceptionally terrifying movies are ones that do not induce shock horror, but more like suspense films, similair to Nosferatu.
One I recommend is Stephen King's "IT", Mirrors, 13 Ghosts, and the Exorcism of Emily Rose.
If you are looking for movies along the lines of just over the top, the original Last House on the Left, Cannibals Holocaust.
DO NOT WATCH THE DESCENT. EVER
