You would not be arguing that television is a bad thing. You would be arguing that television is neither necessary nor evil.
Television is not necessary because there are many other sources of information and entertainment. People have turned off their TVs and rediscovered each other as a couple or a family. Young people can turn off the TV and become physically active and socially connected. Reading books and newspapers can be a better source of information than TV, since they are not reduced to "sound bites" (short snippets).
But television is not evil. It can provide worthwhile programming -- culture, arts, history, science, politics. Television is more than just soap operas, game shows, talk shows, and reality TV. Television does not have to be a wasteland, an idiot box, a boob tube.
Television can be whatever we want it to be. It is only necessary if we rely or depend on it like a drug. It is only evil if we allow it to be filled with emptiness and garbage.

It is a very necessary part of our lives.
We cannot live without tv.
It has many benefits as well as entertainment advantages over other media.
I conclude my speech by saying that tv is a necessary evil but not at all evil-only necessary.
P.S. You're in my class and the debate is over!!!
