the 90s
in the 80s they showed videos...back when mtv was a good channel to watch

but reality tv shows predated mtv--An American Family was on PBS in 1973--the original reality tv show (mostly crap, just like all other reality tv shows, but the scenes with Lance and Kristian are awesome--or just Lance by himself...)
