He is overrated. He's a very selfish and arrogant player and person as well as a very bad teammate. He also loves being the media's darling, as it feeds his already gigantic ego. He had Shaq and David Stern on his side for years, everything has always come easy for him. So what if he posts up those big individual numbers in points? That's not what real champions are about. How about rating him against actual teams and as part of a team? Basketball is team sport, not an individual sport. That's why Paul Pierce will always be better than him. He's had to fight hard all these years. The road is never easy for true champions.

The Kobester is a good player and probably a comedian in real life as illustrated by his shenanigans w/ rasheed wallace in that halftime video.

Nonetheless the man set himself up for a hard fall (ever since he entered the league) by him comparing himself to MJ (while the real key in those early years was shaq).

When shaq left (cas' by then Kobe had appointed himself to be the next MJ) then the media dubbed him into the next MJ and then eventually even Phil Jackson...though in Phil's case it was cas' of his girlfriend and her blood ties to the family business-- the lakers are owned and managed by Jerry West, her brother.

In truth Kobe is like MJ in many ways, but in the end Kobe is just Kobe. And by him anointing himself in the same breathe as possibly the greatest basketball player ever and then choking now repeatedly in the post-shaq laker playoff teams--thatis why he is considered overrated. (though by other normal standards he is a very good player)

remember...if you can back your trash-talking by wininng titles and finals mvps then you are considered confident (like Jordan was)

but if you choke for whatever reason then you are considered arrogant as in kobe's case so far

The things that are overrated about Kobe are:

That he's a true leader,i know that no one can win rings alone but Shag was the true leaders when they won 3 rings in a row

He's overrated team player,yeah has 4,9 asp but he lost his passing touch because he wants to take more shots

Kobe's also overrated team mate,remember the thing with Bynum,Shag and Malone
