I'm a male trying out for American Idol in the summer in Arizona, and I'm 15(16 by the time I try out). Since I don't know to many good songs, I was wondering what a good audition song was. I can sing from a low e to a middle g(I could probably go higher, but my falsetto is not too good. So I was wondering what a good song I could sing at the tryouts. Thanks.
okay, so a bit more about myself. I've been trained for a few years in classical singing, and my teacher found that I had a good voice for soul music. I would rather have a slow song than a fast one.
and, I don't really think it matters if I know lots of songs, the only thing that matters is that I can sing. Please no more rude comments.

Okay start with the modern songs that are really known by teens.
If you are a screamo guy then:
Greely Estates- Y all with the vampire squad or Blue Morning
Emily by From First to Last
Red Dress or Knees Bled Begging from LoveHateHero

If you don't know TOO many good songs, then you shouldn't even try out. Hate to be rude, but if you try out, it's much worse.
I say wait another year or so when you've been able to research your music and perfect it. If you're really serious about being a contestant then you can wow them with your performance.

aw...ha! I hope we see you on t.v.! :)
Um, I agree with others-try and do something that most Americans that watch the show will know. In other words, something that was recently popular or is currently popular. Make sure to do a dry run with a trusted family member or friend and have them give you an honest opinion and suggestions, that way you don't embarass yourself on national tv! Don't do one of the cliche songs that EVERYONE does when they go on that show.
Good Luck!
p.s. i just thought of a good song maybe- have you heard "Second Chance" by Shinedown? I love it!

Umm here are some options. I'm not sure if it is your style or not though.
-Waiting on the World to change- John Mayer
-Your Raise Me Up- Josh Groban (Simon loves that song, but only sing it if you are really good at it)
-Say -John Mayer
I hope you make it! I will be watching! :)
