It does a pretty respectable job, but as almost always, the book is much better. There is so much to the book, it seems like the movie sort of hurries through to cover it all.
If you are thinking about watching the movie to substitute for reading the book, don't do it. You'll regret not having read it and you will miss the beauty of it.
