View Full Version : Why does everyone love and adore Oprah? For her donations?

If I made $260 million a year I'd donate AT LEAST $269 million to charity and all the poor people throughout the world...What the **** is she doing with all that money anyway?! Is she gonna pamper herself to death? Is just one million dollars not enough? She's a billionaire and everybody loves and adores her for donating a small fraction of her money...she NEVER donates without doing it publicly! It's all for publicity!

Anyway, I don't care what she does with the money. Everybody's just wasting their time adoring this women when clearly she's cheap.
Ooo..kay...What the **** is a hater troll? Never been called that in my entire life.

Anyway, calm down it was an innocent mistake I meant 259 million not 269. And, on the contrary, I'm really good at math.

Acquiring hundreds of millions of dollars and donating a fraction of it IS NOT generous...what else is she gonna do with the money.

Sure she has a good talk show, but she is certainly NOT generous.

If I made that much money, I would donate a heck of a lot more than she does to charities... to see the smiles on the faces of people, that is so heartwarming!!!

If by 'everyone" you mean fat, lonely, stupid, middle-agedwomen, then it is because they identify with her.
EDIT: "bookish" being on Jeopardy or in Mensa means you can memorize information it does not mean you are intelligent. Do you want a list of my accomplishments? Do not tell me not to stereotype AND at the same time try and censor me because you do not agree with my opinion. I wonder what gets someone farther in life being a member of an arbitrary club or wearing a size 2 jeans? Oops I know the answer to that.

I don't "love" and "adore" her, but I do respect her for her hard work and devotion to helping and educating others and besides, not everything of importance can be measured in dollars, one's time and effort should also to be considered. Words like "never" and "everyone" shouldn't be used unless you have hard facts, and you certainly didn't provide any. You could also say the same thing about many celebrities, so why single out Oprah? Since she has no children, there's a very good chance she will donate most of her fortune to charity when she dies, so I think she deserves to enjoy some while she's living. It's pretty easy to be generous with words. Should I assume that you donate the same percentage of your income now as you would if you were rich?

Wait a minute, you just said you'd donate OVER the amount you made, which doesn't make sense.

One million dollars is nothing these days, I can't even pay for half a house for that in Los Angeles, and I can't imagine Chicago being any better.

There is no shame in giving publically, she helps more than miserable people that just complain.

Bitter much, hater troll?

actually, Oprah makes a ton of donations that aren't publicized. People like her because she is generous and seems down to earth, and they can relate to her struggles - weight & relationship issues.
Personally, I don't really care one way or the other for her, but she does do a lot of good things for needy people, especially children.

1As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. 2He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.[a] 3"I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. 4All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."

I've never been crazy about her, mostly because her shows are always about her--no matter what the topic, she steers it back to herself. (At least, this is what she used to do years ago. I haven't seen the show in a very long time.)
To her credit, this is a woman who started with nothing and became one of the richest people in the United States. She also did a lot to promote literacy with her book club.
But, I agree to some extent--there are probably people who give a lot more to charity than Oprah does, but they don't feel the need to tell the world about what they've done.
BTW, I'm an overweight middle-aged white woman, so please don't lump me in with the Oprah cult members. I'm also not stupid--I'm a two-time Jeopardy champ and a member of Mensa. Maybe that's why I'm not an Oprah fan. But watch the generalizations, please.

well, that's your opinion and you have a right to think what you want.I personally think that she's a good person.after all, most billionaire's are jerks, while Oprah has not let the money change her.I think she tries to good through her show, rather then with her money.(helpful tips and all that) and you have to admit that when she does donate, it does a lot of good.Weather or not you agree with me is your own business, but that's my opinion on the matter.
oh yeah, just because you watch Oprah doesn't mean that your an idiot.and I'm a guy, so that's saying something.

Not everyone loves and adores her. Many feel that she is self absorbed(right now she's doing ANOTHER show about her weight problems). You're right -- considering how much money she has she really doesn't give away very much and the reporters and photographers always seem to be around when she does.

I have never listened to her show, and I have no desire to.
I can't understand what the big deal is about her anyway, sure she has accomplished a lot, but so have several other people!

she has done some good things, but several other people have to. I don't know how many homes she owns, but I do know that she owns at least one in CA, that is valued at several million dollars, plus she has at least one in Chicago, where she lives most of the time.
