I know there are a different types of learning styles for students:
- Visual: learn by seeing pictures or diagrams
- Listening: learn by listening to the teacher
- Kinesthetic: Learn by doing
What do you call this learning style in which I only learn most effectively by checking the solutions manual to see the step-by-step breakdown of a problem (not for cheating). People say you can't learn by checking the answers.....but I beg to differ. What do you call this kind of learning style?

Why would you not classify this as visual, as you are using your eyes and making the logic, step by step....

that is a visual and kinsthetic combined there is nothing strange about that. You one learn by seeing and two you learning by doing it as in breaking it down

Probably a combination of visual/kinesthetic. You are seeing the material, yes? Then, I presume that you are using the information to complete an assignment or do some sort of practice, yes? If this his happening you are a hybrid. Most people are. I think you are visual/kinesthetic.

Yep, visual/kinesthetic. Checking the solutions manual allows you to analyze and break down the procedure, which is something you would be likely to do physically if given manipulative objects.
You see the steps - you don't so much need them read aloud or orally explained to you - and then your brain breaks them down into a process. Visual/kinesthetic.

You most certainly can learn by checking the answers - in maths and science especially. So long as you are looking at the method and not just the end answer.
There are lots of different models of learning styles, not just the one you mentioned.
If I was to stick a label on you I'd call you a 'theorist' based on Honey and Mumfords model (common in adult education and training).
Theorists are interested in thinking things through logically and analysing them. You are interested in how and why something works. This fits in with how you learn. A lot of maths is done this way, you learn by looking at examples so you can understand how they work.
Thing is, there is pretty much zero proper scientific (neuroscience or psychology) evidence that any learning style model works. Sure, mixing things up with visuals and activities is great, but the idea that we have a 'learning style' is bogus and it can be dangerous...it can lead to you concluding that you learn best one way, so not try others.
Keep trying different things - some will work and some wont, but it is the best way of figuring out what is best for you.
