It was written in a much different way than many other books.
Words that were common in the time period were frequently used even in the narrators text, which I found to be a cute addition. I loved the was Scott W. described the emotions. They were much deeper and much more complex than most books because if he couldn't describe something, he would make up a way to describe it (hence the creation of words such as "bubbly-making"). I would consider it a YA or Sci-Fiction type of genre, but more of a realistic Sci-fi. It honestly belonged in a genre of it's own because no genre could completely classify Uglies.
