I think Heath Ledger was great, and please don't take my question the wrong way, I'm just wondering though, if him passing away is aiding this HUGE box office performance right now.

No I don't think it would be as successful. It would still be as good because nothing had changed about the actual movie. Heath's death got everbody fascinated by it and it got overhyped.

That's a really good question, Most of the people I know who seen it really only wanted to see if because of Heath ledgers death..
And the last batman movie wasn't that great I heard so I think if he didn't die it might of not been as great; But then again it was a really intense movie, great movie so it's really hard to tell

No, it wouldn't. It was entertaining, but some reviewers are going on like this is the greatest film of all time. At best, it was mediocre.

personally, i would say yes, it would do well. because im not the type of person who wants to go see a movie, but this movie was promoted so well that i really wanted to see it (so i did, and it was awesome) and personally, i dont really care anything about heath ledger, dead or alive, so that didnt affect me at all. he did make one **** ofa joker tho

OMG, I was telling a friend the same exact thing...
I agree with you, Heath was great BUT not OSCAR great. The movie would have done good but it would not have made history if he hadnt passed.
The fact that he died, ppl just want to see his last performance...

I wondered that same thing.

I would like to think so, but it's like with his death, his part has more emphasis (as if it didn't already).

I loved his part though. It was fantastic.

It's a shame though that with artists (actors, painters, singers, writers, etc.), they get more appreciation when they're dead. It happens all the time.

Proves how much "fans" and "supporters" take them for granted.

thats a **** good question..and i think that the movie changed from being an anticipated, FAN movie..to a all around, everybody can enjoy, cult favored, blockbuster movie. i was going to see Batman well before he died..but i know people who went just BECAUSE he died..he was a cool actor and did a phenomenal job in the movie, to answer your question more directly, i think it wouldve done just fine, but not nearly as well as it had..R.I.P Heath Ledger

It's hard to say how much money it would be bringing in...but I think you'd probably hear more negative things since most people are calling his performance brilliant because they don't want to speak badly of the dead. Who knows if that is actually the reason though that people are going to see it.

ooooo controversial!!! like it!" ermmm it would still be a big hit.. but maybe not quite as big a hit. i dont think he would be nominated for an Oscar though. i think his performance is really good in the dark knight.. just not as good as everyone says!

good question

YES! the movie was outstanding. heath's death had no effect on the movie. Its easy to tell when there are good actors, and mediocre ones. Everyone performed well

Even if he didn't passed away, the movie would still be amazing. Frankly, people in America love Batman and The Joker.

Somewhat because people who are fans of Heath but don't care about Batman are going to see it because it was Heath's last performance and Batman fans were going to go see it anyway.

His death helped A LITTLE, but trust me 90% or more would have still been there. People liked Batman Begins, they liked the new direction. Then you add to it that the movie lives up to the hype, which would have got the word of mouth going around as much. Actually I think people who are fans of Ledger would have went and watched it just because he was in it still. I don't think anyone new is really watching it because he is dead, and wouldn't have watched it because he is in it.

Wow, great question. I have wondered the same thing myself. I do not think it would have been nearly as successful so quickly, but in the long run the movie would have spoken for itself. If Heath wouldnt have passed away, I think it would have made around 140 million opening weekend, compared to 155 million. But whatever the final figure will be, say 500-600 million total, that number probably would have still been the same.

So, I do believe that Heath Ledgers death contributed to the huge box office numbers right now, but in the long run, it probably wouldnt have made that big of a difference.
